Turns out the neighborhood group that will have the most input in the decision is called the "Campus Reflector Committee" — appropriately named because these people will "reflect" on the attributes and characteristics they want in a new principal. The committee will include:
• Either the incoming, current or most recent past PTA president (in that order of availability)
• One parent selected from the Local School Council
• One parent selected at-large
• Three campus staff members selected by the Richardson ISD executive director and assistant superintendent
• RISD executive director (acting as facilitator)
• RISD human resources representative (acting as scribe)
According to a letter addressed to LHHS and LHFC parents and staff from RISD Superintendent David Simmons (sent to us via RISD trustee and Advocate columnist Luke Davis), the committee will develop "the comprehensive principal profile for the school," which Simmons will then use to determine which principal candidates will be interviewed. Simmons will also select a screening committee to narrow the slate of candidates, and that committee will include two of the Campus Reflector Committee members. From that pool, Simmons will interview the final candidates and select the new Lake Highlands High School principal.
If you want in on the process and fit any of the descriptions above, contact Debbie Deaton by phone (469.593.0371) or e-mail no later than next Friday, April 25. The reflector committee will develop the principal profile the week of May 5, and the screening committee will conduct initial interviews the week of May 12.
So it sounds like we'll know who the new LHHS principal is fairly quick, maybe even before June 4, the official end of the school year.
Questions? Call (469.593.0252) or e-mail RISD deputy superintendent Patti Kieker.
