The problem (for the NEWS) with the internet is that there are too many alternative sources. If you are looking at city wide print media, we have one daily, one weekly and one monthly followed by a host of local and neighborhood publications. When you shift to the internet the number of news sources increases at every level from local blogs to world news sites, all on the same screen.

I think more and more of us are questioning the NEWS' selective reporting and information managing because of the number of easily available alternatives. The referendums for the Trinity Toll Road and Farmers Branch have done a lot to damage the NEWS credibility in my eyes.

I'll probably always take a daily newspaper. It's part of my routine. And I would prefer that newspaper to be local, so that leaves me with one choice - which has been frustrating as they've tried to push this toll road thing.

If I ever decide that I can get all my state and local news online or somewhere else, then I'll drop the News take a national daily like the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal (yes, two very different editorial pages but both with excellent reporting). But for right now there still is not a rival to the DMN for local news.
