As the holiday season rolls around, here's one eagerly anticipated neighborhood "gift" that finally seems ready to be delivered: The groundbreaking for the Lake Highlands Town Center project is scheduled at 10 a.m. Nov. 8 at the southeast corner of Skillman and Walnut Hill Lane. The press release promises "festivities" without going into detail, but rest assured that Prescott Realty Group, the developer, and councilman Jerry Allen will be there with shovels and microphones. Although I still am eager to find out exactly what is going to be built there and who is going to occupy the retail space, one thing is certain: The development has been a long time coming, and thanks are due to Alan Walne and Bill Blaydes, among others, for sticking with the project long enough to make it happen.
