Just want to close the book on my speeding saga. Went down to the County Clerk's digs yesterday to try to 'revise' my guilty plea so's I wouldn't pay the price on my record and my insurance rates. Took my number and waited 2+ hours. Gave me lots of time to work and re-work my presentation for the Judge. Passionately related my story to 'The Clerk'. She said, 'Take another number, you'll need to see the Judge'.
Hmm. I did just that but the wait was much shorter. I was ushered into the Honorable Judge Cercone's chamber and enjoyed listening to the plights of those before me. I also got a good feel for my guy - nice sense of humor and some kindness in his tone. Good vibes.
My turn! I gave a great presentation. The verdict: "Mrs. Pair, this is the only ticket you've received, right? If so, you have nothing to worry about, there will be no record of this and your insurance will not increase." I was bold enough to say, "You're sure, Judge?" He smiled and repeated himself, as I'm sure he does often. I'm going on faith that the good Judge knows whereof he speaks.
Whew. Wipe my forehead. As I was thanking him and preparing to leave, I told him that while I waited, I had noticed a nice framed picture of another Constable hanging in the lobby and he was someone I knew pretty well, I had done some volunteer work with him about 11-12 years ago. Again the Judge smiled and said, "That's not another Constable, that's my boss."
Since it was after the fact, I feel confident that I didn't cross any ethical lines and get special treatment. But I too was smilin' as I left the courtroom.
